Chapter Nine

Another week or so passed after Micah and Chase had first made love. Since then, they’d enjoyed several dates that ended with Micah sleeping over Chase’s or vice versa, and each time, Micah could feel himself wanting more.

Not a day would go by without them texting or calling when they separated and even better, they were achieving the comfortable relationship Micah had been looking for. Though complete opposites, they rarely disagreed on anything, which told Micah his resolution about Chase being his soul mate was correct.

Despite all the wonderful things happening in his personal life, Micah’s work as a ghostwriter hadn’t slowed down. The project he agreed to do for another well-known author before he and Chase started dating was full speed ahead.

Since that took up a lot of his personal time, he didn’t take on another one for fear he wouldn’t finish either of them by the given deadline.

On this day, Micah decided to spend the morning doing some research on high tech artillery and the secret service for his latest client’s book. He hoped to get it complete to begin writing what he knew would be a four hundred page novel before it was all set and done. This would afford him the time to take a much needed break before summer ended. He planned to take Chase on a trip for his own birthday in late August.

Sitting in front of his laptop, he wrote notes on one topic, while his other hand busied itself opening another window. He’d been awake since he left Chase’s apartment at seven and after taking a shower, he jumped right onto the computer to get started.

Micah did make time to check on reservations at the Belgrassi for tonight’s special birthday dinner. He’d planned on having a nice meal, then a carriage ride along the lake, before they stayed at the suite he’d reserved for the weekend.

Much to his chagrin, the phone rang, disrupting his thoughts. The saucy jazz tune he’d reserved for his dad blared from the dual tone speakers, making him wince.

“Good morning, Dad.”

“Hey Micah. You haven’t been running with me the last few days everything okay?”

“Yes, I … just been staying over Chase’s or when he’s here with me, we sleep in.”

“Well, I know sex is a good way of keeping in shape, but running is better for the heart. Besides, I miss that father and son time at five a.m. You think you’d be able to squeeze me into your oh so busy life sometime soon?”

That last statement brought a smile to Micah’s face. He leaned back in the chair, crossing one leg over the other. “Yes, I can. I promise you, after this weekend, bright and early on Mon— uh, Tuesday. How’s that?”

“Oh, special plans with your man, huh?”

“Yes, it’s his birthday. I managed to secure reservations at Belgrassi, so we’ll be going out to dinner and spending the whole weekend together.”

“Ah, I see. And when will I be meeting this fine man? Soon, I hope.”

Micah’s eyes widened at that suggestion.
